What is residual income?

Residual income is simply making money over and over from an initial effort. You continue to make money without doing anything after you have everything set up and going.

Having unique quality information about a product on your website can be more beneficial than a hard sell of an affiliate product. I mean don't make it obvious you want them to buy a product from your link. A neutral or slightly positive position on a product can sell much better than someone who is obviously trying to sell a product telling you everything you want to hear.

An example is "the author of this product indicates that it works 5 times faster than other similar products" Lets say this as a hard seller "This is the best product it works 5 times faster than any other product" The more neutral approach will not alert the potential customer causing them to leave your site due to your lack of honesty.

Ok I'm sorry, I know I haven't posted much. There are many reasons why, I have been very busy these past few months. One reason is because my computer got 'toasted' during a storm ouch! I still saved some of my good stuff on my external hard drive, but some of it is gone forever. I had a few good projects that are gone. So I had to play catch up for a while.

Selling online is not always an easy task, but if you’re looking to test affiliate marketing, there are a few simple steps that you can follow to be advertising in no time. Best of all you can do all this for free.

So where do you start?

I didn’t realize how essential it was to have a plan until after a few months into the internet business world. I wasn’t making any money or having any success. I was frustrated of all of my hard work not paying off, so what did I do? I developed a plan and my success went way up from that point on.

What’s the ideal number of businesses to have?

There are many views on how many active businesses a person should have. There are advantages and disadvantages for both extremes. The problem is choosing the right amount of active businesses. Having been at both extremes myself I believe I have found the solution.

Advantages of one business
With one business you have the advantage of being able to devote all your time that you spend on that one business, so that business will eventually be successful if you put in the work and if it is a good business.

Disadvantages of one business
There are many problems with only having one income source. So one business is not the way to go unless you can perfect that business and some how minimize the risk of losing that income source.

How about multiple businesses
A ‘program hopper’ generally doesn’t have success at all. These are the majority of people who haven’t found a good business and stuck with it. Everyone wants quick results on the internet. Like all other businesses the internet is no different, you need to put in the work to get paid.

The Solution
How about taking the best of both worlds? You have a few good businesses. Spend a little time on each of them. See which business is more successful then promote that business more than the other businesses.

This is a great plan for safety reasons. If you lose one of the businesses you have the other businesses that you can still make money with. The key here is that you don’t lose big by losing one of your businesses.

Anyone that has ever tried to sell anything knows that the more potential customers they get the more they can sell. So we agree that getting customers is very important and without them you will most certainly fail. Unfortunately, all traffic is not good traffic. There is one important factor you must consider and is often overlooked.
It’s almost impossible to convert someone with no interest into a buyer.

Targeted (interested) traffic is more important than overall traffic. You simply can’t sell someone something that they have no interest in. This is a big problem and it’s costing people tons of money, because they are simply advertising to the wrong group.

So how do you get interested traffic?
Well, there are many ways, but one necessary skill you must have is you must be able to write or hire someone to write. You don’t have to be a great writer, just write what you know that’s related to what you’re trying to sell.

Many people avoid residual income businesses because they believe they will have to pay big checks each month. So the obvious choice is to choose a cheap business to join. This can lead to problems. Looking at other characteristics is more important.

Myth: You will loose money each month with residual businesses
It’s true that with many of these businesses you loose money over and over again. That could be due to many factors. The major factor for this is due to the business that you are a part of. Many times they have not done there job of telling you how to promote your business effectively.

This is where most people fail they don’t know how to promote the business effectively so they give up to soon. Unfortunately, build a business takes time and without a good business that tells you how it takes much longer.

Just because a business is cheap doesn’t eliminate the risk of losing money.
Choosing a business based on its low price will not eliminate the risk of losing money. To advertise you need time or money both are investments because ‘time is money’ so you are losing if you are choosing the wrong residual income business.

Do not consider cost the most important factor. I am a member of a few different residual income businesses, they are very good. One of them is free to join and one cost a small monthly fee. The one with a small monthly fee makes me much more money and is a very good business compared to the free business.

The best approach
This is important; you have to look at all the characteristics a good business should have. If the business has many and it has a low monthly cost (or free) then it is a good business to join.

There are many benefits of having a business that offers you freedom. It isn’t easy to identify these businesses, but when you do you will be thankful in the long run because you will be able to make money while at the same time you can choose to do something else such as go on a vacation. Here are some of the factors to look for when choosing that business.

Freedom from business owner/sponsor
You don’t want to be told or forced to do anything. You should be able to work at your own pace rather that having a set amount of referrals that you must get or a set amount of sales you must make. It is good to have goals, but they should be your own goals, not the goals of your sponsor or the business that you join.

Being able to communicate freely with other members of your business is important. Allowing people to join the company directly through you meaning you get 100% of the profit and can allow them to pay you in any form that you both choose. Once again you will need to communicate through email and an autoresponder is a great way to do that, just add your email address at the signature of your messages.

Freedom of promotion
You should have the freedom to promote in any way you choose to. A good quality business should offer many promotional choices you could use, while allowing you to choose when and how you want to promote the residual income business.

Freedom of time
This is probably the most important freedom. Residual income businesses are great because you can continue making money even if you don’t spend much time on the business after you get it going. The most important part of creating a residual income business is the initial effort that you make; because once a person joins they will most likely continue paying you if the business is of good quality.

Finding a poor business will not lead to success. This is a very big problem. It should not be overlooked. To help you out with this problem you need to understand why it is a problem and why you should not ignore it. Then I will tell you how to avoid the problem.

Choosing the ‘wrong business’ will result in

Losing valuable time
Why would you want to spend hours and hours of your valuable time on a business that isn’t worth it? It is hard to convince people to join a business that has very few good characteristics. So as a result very few people will join. You have nothing of quality to offer them by joining.

Here is what a person thinks when deciding to join a business.

What does this business have to offer me?

What am I getting in exchange for my time, money…

How can I benefit by joining this business?

Knowing these questions gives you a lot of valuable information. If you know the answer to these questions you will be able to sell what you have to offer much better. With a business that has very little to offer you will have a hard time coming up with a good answer to those questions.

Losing money
By investing money in a poor business you are spending money that you most likely will not get back from the business. This may cause you to invest more money. That is a big mistake and it happens all the time. This is very important - if you’re not making money why invest more money?

If you’re not spending any money remember the fact that ‘time is money’ you could be making money by investing you time in another business such as a good quality business that has a characteristic like residual income (continues payment for one effort).

Look on the main page This is somewhat obvious yet sometimes overlooked. Some businesses when describing there selves will indicate that they are a worldwide business they may use the term international, or tell how many countries they have members from. To find this usually it is near the companies' logo.

Look in the terms of service page The terms of service page is usually at the bottom of the screen and may indicate what countries they support. This can be time consuming when these pages may be small font and very long. So you may want to try some of the other links on the main page.

Look at the payment processors This may be hard to find if you are not a member yet, but knowing what payment processors a company uses can be beneficial because it is more convenient for those who are already familiar with that payment processor or processors (more than one is better).

Do a search A simple search may indicate some information to indicate if a residual income business is worldwide if you use the right keywords. Possible key words include the companies name and worldwide, international, countries, and sometimes even review.

Go to the join page You can always just go to the join page and see what information they require, the problem is many businesses don't make it clear what countries they support. The information required may be optimized toward there main source of customers.

Benefits of worldwide businesses One major benefit is more potential customers which means more potential profits. Another lesser known benefit is advertising is cheaper in certain countries. Google adwords is more expensive in the Unites States and Canada mostly because there is more competition for key words. Some prospects may be more likely to join in other countries due to the fact that there may be much less competition.

Use the worldwide advantage as a promotional tool meaning include that in your ads to encourage more people to join. That's only a small part in choosing the right business to join, there are also many other key factors to look at when investing your time and money in a worldwide residual income business.
